Better Public Building Shortlist Revealed

August 6, 2009

Prime minister's awardThe Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award is always a prestigious and exciting event in the architectural calendar and 2009 is no exception. The shortlist for the award was recently released boasting a record 24 finalists all from the UK. Five of the lucky finalists are from the East Midlands which is fantastic recognition for the region.

The award prides itself on rewarding ‘architecture of the everyday’ and works in conjunction with CABE to look at efficient procurement as well as buildings and this year it’s new love is transport infrastructure with almost half of the final competitors falling into this category.

Gordon Brown himself is committed to the awards saying, “…we believe that buildings that work efficiently and effectively improve the lives of those working in and around them and mean better public services. These projects show how creative design can make a real difference to how buildings and places work and can deliver public buildings that the community can take pride in.”
