Perils of the pie

Any attendees of the Presenting Data Masterclass will be familiar with the campaign against pie charts, with a small number of segments they’re barely adequate at representing the data – with multiple segments they become useless chartjunk which convey nothing about the data and waste the reader’s time as they try to decipher it.

Michael Blastland, creator of More or Less, has a new column today on the perils of the pie – scroll down past the very interesting marathon story and you’ll find a succint description of the pitfalls of some of the ‘whizzier’ computer graphics option on Excel etc.
